I searched for love in food, alcohol, men, and money. They were all disappointing, left me feeling worse, and yet wanting more of what didn’t fill me up in the first place nor ever could.
I had to learn to quit them all. At times one would replace the other.
Sometimes I wondered if I would ever be free.
It turned out that where I was looking for answers – in the world, in new age, in self-help – would never set me free. It would perpetuate a state of brokenness and dependence, not freedom.
When the facade of what you thought was the answer comes crumbling down, and you face the destruction left behind, there’s only one place to turn that will offer any resolution or redemption – God.
And thank God for that and thank God He doesn’t say I told you so with condemnation but instead is like the father of the prodigal son who welcomes you with open arms and is overjoyed that you have come home to Him.
And that is where you find freedom – freedom from all your negative comparisons, judgments against yourself, guilt, and shame.
The slate is wiped clean, you see.
So while it is the start of a new year, you don’t have to wait for a special day on the calendar to begin again.
Today, this moment, is as good as any.
When you’ve chased and experienced much of what the world has to offer and it leaves you feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, lost, confused, and empty, allow yourself to pause the craziness and in that moment, cry out to God.
Seek Him to show you a new way, a way that brings you peace, fulfillment, joy, and true freedom.
That is where you will find rest from the madness of this world.
That is where you will find everlasting love. ❤️
That is what makes you new – not a date change in the calendar.
Unlike the passing pleasures of this world and the changing nature of people, God is the same always. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
His love is what changes everything, including you.
Happy New Year 2022!
