This was my answer to the Commander of Cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy when he asked why I wanted to resign.
.
He didn’t understand and tore into me, which only confirmed I had made the right decision.
.
I hadn’t put together an analysis of the pros and cons and decided what was right for me based on my head. My heart KNEW.
.
I also didn’t have a plan for what was next. I had dreams and desires that were calling me in a different direction.
.
Some people would say that is foolish. I say living a life and doing work you don’t love is foolish.
.
Last winter when I was teaching at DU as I had been for close to 10 years, I KNEW it was time to bring that chapter of my life to a close.
.
My heart wasn’t in it anymore.
.
Yes, these decisions require taking a risk on the unseen, which can be scary. It is TRUSTING there is something better and more aligned for you and you must take a step of faith in order for the path to appear.
.
I have also felt this in relationships.
.
I had been dating an ex-boyfriend for over a year and he was perfect on paper. He was successful, creative, attractive, kind, and fun.
.
Yet, there was something missing.
.
My heart wasn’t in it.
.
I wanted to be seen and met from the heart, not just the head and body.
.
Each of these situations required tremendous faith as any time we step toward what we want, old patterns and beliefs work to keep us down.
.
The only way is through.
.
Even when you can’t see where that might be.
.
For me, after leaving USCGA, I went on to receive my BA in Psychology with a minor in Adventure Recreation from OU and I LOVED it. After leaving DU, I enrolled several clients into my coaching practice and felt excitement for my work. After leaving my ex-boyfriend, I committed to BEING the partner I desired. This place of security and confidence led to meeting my husband, who is much better even than the man I dreamed of.
.
It all starts in the heart. ❤️
.
Followed by trust. 🙏🏽
.
Stepping out in faith. 👑
.
Loving the way, even when it feels scary and uncertain.
.
KNOW you are supported in living the life, doing the work, and being in the relationship that truly LIGHTS you up.
