What are some of the stories you have going on in your head?
There isn’t enough time.
I’m overwhelmed
I’m exhausted.
There isn’t enough money.
I’m too old.
I’m so tired.
I’m overweight.
I can’t do that.
I’ve already spent 10 years in this.
It’s hard to start over.
How long have you been telling yourself these stories? How many years? How many times throughout the day does this tape play on repeat?
How do you feel when you hear this tape playing over and over in your head?
If you’re like me, you feel terrible when you listen to these thoughts scrolling through your mind. They don’t motivate you to change. They usually don’t inspire you to take action, and if they do, it is short-lived as we usually end up in resignation.
Once we start to become more aware of how debilitating these thoughts are, we can start to choose differently. It can begin with simply catching the thought, acknowledging it, and then releasing it. You can say something as simple as, That isn’t true anymore. If you want a stronger shake-up, clap, jump, shout, or take some quick action that shifts the energy immediately. As you start to release the old story, you can begin to write a new story. Start slowly. Switch I’m tired to I feel alright.
One of my favorite mantras is, Things are always working out for me. This is especially powerful when you are going through a period where fear and doubt are creeping around your door.
Worry robs us of our energy and it actually negatively impacts our health as stress contributes to heart disease, which is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. (This isn’t to be dramatic – this is simply a fact.) I mention it because we DO have control over our thoughts. We can choose to ‘worry ourselves sick’ or we can choose to trust that everything is working out in our best interests.
When you can do something to change the outcome, do it. When you can’t, let it go, trust it to God, the universe, a higher power, whatever you call it, and then go do something that adds more life, more light, and more love to the world. That starts with you.
It all starts with a choice. Faith or fear? We act according to our choices. Please choice faith. It will take you further. It will bring more life, love, light, laughter, and creativity to your life. It will lead you to a much better place than fear ever will.
Now it’s your turn.
What is one thing you can do today to start to rewrite the story that is going on in your head?
Sending you unwavering faith,
Kori
