In the northern hemisphere, today marks the official first day of spring, denoting renewal and rejuvenation. It is a day when the day and night are equal – the light and darkness are balanced. Today, we are reminded to honor the light and the dark, the growth and the pain, the sweet and the bitter, the whimsical and the serious.
I am the queen of serious yet I also have a fun, playful, childlike nature as well.
We need both. Our minds, bodies, and spirits crave both. Most of us crave variety but settle for monotony. We somehow lose our spark and start to go through the motions of life on auto-pilot. One of the best ways to clear out the cobwebs of the mind is to do some spring cleaning of the soul (translation: reconnect with yourself). Today, being the official first day of spring is the perfect day to do just that.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Take a walk. Notice the trees starting to bud and the flowers blossoming. As you do, reflect on the path that has brought you to where you are and acknowledge how far you have come. You are like the trees and flowers – continuously growing even when the growth may not be visible.
- Find a labyrinth and walk it in active contemplation of the journey ahead. As you walk towards the center, carry in your mind something you would like to release or something you desire to be resolved. Rest in the center and visualize letting go of whatever is burdening you right now. As you walk back out of the labyrinth, visualize the journey ahead and give gratitude as if all that you desire has already come to you.
- Write down all the things you’ve always wanted to do, have, and be for five minutes without stopping. Read through the list and pick ONE to go do TODAY.
- Celebrate in some way – dance, sing, run, draw, paint, cook a nice meal, call someone to tell them you love them. End your evening with this toast – “To all that is behind me, to all that is yet to come, to all of who I have been, to all of who I am becoming, I honor and celebrate all of it.”
When we are connected to ourselves, we hear our heart’s yearnings more clearly.
What is your desire calling you to? What can you do today to heed that call?
When we connect to our inner fire, our path will be illuminated. We must step out in faith, let go of ‘how’ it is all going to work out and trust that as we follow what lights us up, we will be led exactly where we need to go.
Your soul is calling you to awaken. Today is the perfect day. Now is the right time.
Happy Vernal Equinox!
Celebrating you,
Kori
